Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: April 28, 2026

This Policy governs the rental of fashion and apparel on rented.live (the "Platform"), operated by ZYON FOUNDATION, a Delaware corporation. It is a binding part of our Terms & Conditions and incorporates our Privacy Policy.

1. Lender and Renter Obligations

Accuracy of Listings. Lenders must provide accurate descriptions, high-quality images shot in natural light, true sizing/measurements, and an honest condition grade โ€” New with tags, Like new, Gently used, or Vintage. Material flaws (stains, repairs, alterations, missing buttons) must be disclosed.

Quality & Hygiene Standards. All items must be professionally cleaned or laundered to an equivalent standard and shipped in ready-to-wear condition, free of odours, pet hair, and visible soiling. Underwear, swimwear linings, and any item that cannot be hygienically cleaned between rentals are prohibited (see Section 2).

Rental Period. Both parties agree to the start and end dates displayed at checkout. Possession of an item past the agreed return date without a prior written extension granted through the Platform constitutes unauthorised retention and authorises Rented to capture the full security deposit hold and pursue further recovery via the Self-Insured Protection Plan.

Handling & Care. The Renter is liable for the garment from the moment of receipt until the Lender confirms safe return through the Platform's condition-report flow. Do-it-yourself repairs, dyeing, alterations, or non-approved cleaning methods are prohibited.

Condition Reports. Both parties must complete photographic condition reports at check-out (before shipping) and check-in (on return) within 24 hours. Failure to do so shifts the evidentiary burden to the non-compliant party in any subsequent dispute.

2. Prohibited Items and Activities

You may not list, rent, monetise, promote, or transmit on Rented any of the following. These categories are strictly prohibited and trigger immediate demonetisation and removal under Section 7.

  • Adult content & services: nudity, sexually explicit imagery, fetish or escort services, subscriber-only adult media, adult live audio/video chat, or any garment listed primarily for sexual rather than fashion purposes.
  • Intellectual property & proprietary rights infringement:listings that misappropriate another party's trademark, design rights, trade dress, publicity rights, or trade secrets.
  • Copyright-infringing content: leaked or unlicensed media (music, film, software), unauthorised reproductions of artwork or photography, and any garment featuring infringing prints or graphics.
  • Violent extremism & hate speech: content that engages in, encourages, promotes, or celebrates unlawful violence, terrorism, or hatred toward any group based on race, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, or any other immutable characteristic.
  • Child safety: any content that sexualises, endangers, or exploits minors. Reported immediately to NCMEC and law enforcement.
  • Unhygienic items: underwear, intimate apparel, swimwear without hygienic linings, used hosiery, or any garment that cannot be cleaned to ready-to-wear standard between rentals.
  • Damaged or unsafe items: garments with structural damage, broken zips/clasps, exposed boning, or items posing a health and safety risk.
  • Counterfeits: replicas, "dupes," or items misrepresented as a designer brand. Zero tolerance โ€” first offence results in permanent removal.
  • Restricted materials: items containing real fur from CITES-listed species, ivory, tortoiseshell, or other materials prohibited by EU, US, or local law.
  • Hateful or unlawful apparel: items displaying hate symbols, incitement to violence, or promoting illegal activity.
  • Off-platform circumvention: arranging payment, deposits, or handover outside the Rented checkout โ€” including cash, bank transfer, Revolut, PayPal F&F, or crypto. This is a terminable offence.
  • Commercial wholesale: Rented is for personal-wardrobe sharing. Bulk dropshipping or unverified retail inventory is not permitted without a written commercial agreement.

3. Cleaning, Damage, and Disputes

Standard cleaning fee. A modest cleaning allowance is built into every rental. Renters must return items in the condition received, allowing for normal wear (light creasing, minor surface dust).

Excess cleaning. If an item requires specialised treatment (dry-cleaning beyond a standard cycle, stain removal, deodorising, leather re-conditioning), the Renter may be charged the documented invoice amount, capped at the protection-tier limit set out in our Terms (Section 6).

Damage claims. Lenders must report damage, loss, or theft within 24 hours of receiving the returned item, supported by:

  • The original check-out condition report.
  • Time-stamped photographs of the damage on receipt.
  • A repair estimate or replacement-cost evidence.

Dispute mediation. Rented acts as the sole mediator. Our trust & safety team reviews submitted evidence and issues a written decision within 5 business days. The decision is final and binding for the purposes of releasing or capturing the security deposit and disbursing any Self-Insured Protection Plan payment.

Shipping & logistics. Risk of loss in transit on the outbound leg sits with the Lender until tracked delivery is confirmed; on the return leg it sits with the Renter until the Lender confirms receipt. Both parties must use a tracked, insured carrier service offered through the Platform.

4. Marketplace Compliance (Stripe Connect)

Rented uses Stripe Connect (Express) to process payments, hold security deposits, and disburse Lender earnings. By transacting on the Platform you also agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement and Stripe Restricted Businesses list.

  • Identity verification (KYC/AML). Lenders must complete the Stripe-hosted onboarding flow โ€” government ID, address, and (for items declared above โ‚ฌ1,000) a selfie liveness check โ€” before any payout is released.
  • Sanctions screening. Accounts on OFAC, EU, or UK sanctions lists are blocked. Rented does not knowingly transact with users in sanctioned jurisdictions.
  • Transaction metadata. Every charge carries booking_id, listing_id, rental_start_date,rental_end_date, and a protection_tier field to support Stripe risk reviews and chargeback responses.
  • Prohibited conduct. Money laundering, structuring, fraud, triangulation, and transacting in goods listed on Stripe's Restricted Businesses list are forbidden and will be reported to authorities where required.
  • Reporting. Suspected counterfeits, off-platform solicitations, fraudulent claims, or any attempt to circumvent the payment system must be reported to legal@rented.live (copy the address as-is, with no trailing period).
  • Chargebacks. Renters agree to contact Rented support before initiating a card chargeback. Friendly-fraud chargebacks issued in bad faith may result in account termination and recovery of the disputed amount.

5. Click-Wrap Acceptance

Before listing an item or completing a rental, every Lender and Renter must affirmatively accept this Acceptable Use Policy by clicking "I agree to the Rental AUP". We log the timestamp, IP, and policy version of each acceptance for compliance purposes.

6. Limitation of Liability & Insurance Disclosure

Rented is a marketplace facilitator and is not the owner of items listed on the Platform. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Rented and ZYON FOUNDATION are not liable for:

  • The quality, fit, authenticity, or condition of items provided by Lenders.
  • Carrier delays, lost parcels, or customs holds (recoverable from the carrier).
  • Disputes between users that fall outside our mediation process.
  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from a rental.

Insurance disclosure. The Self-Insured Protection Plan is a discretionary, pooled benefit financed by the dedicated 3% Protection Fee renters pay on top of each rental. It is not a contract of insurance, the Protection Fee is not an insurance premium, Rented is not an insurer, and ZYON FOUNDATION is not regulated as one. Users wishing to obtain formal cover should consult a licensed insurance provider.

7. Programmatic Detection, Demonetisation & Removal

Rented operates an automated content-integrity pipeline that runs on every listing, message, and image upload โ€” before content is published and continuously after:

  • Image classification for nudity, weapons, hate symbols, and known counterfeit-brand markers using a multi-label vision model.
  • Perceptual & cryptographic hashing (PhotoDNA for CSAM, pHash for previously removed counterfeit and infringing imagery). Matches are blocked at upload.
  • Text scanning of titles, descriptions, and DMs against continuously updated blocklists for adult-services keywords, hate-speech tokens, off-platform payment terms, and trademark-misuse patterns.
  • Stripe Radar rules tied to booking_id / listing_id metadata; flagged transactions auto-pause payouts pending manual review.
  • Automatic demonetisation: any listing flagged by the pipeline is hidden from search, payouts are frozen, in-flight bookings are cancelled and refunded, and the case enters the Trust & Safety queue within minutes.

8. Repeat-Violator Policy

Rented operates a published three-strike policy. Strikes expire 24 months after issuance; aggregate strike counts are visible to the user in their account dashboard.

  • Strike 1: listing removed, written warning, mandatory re-acceptance of this AUP before further activity.
  • Strike 2: 30-day suspension of listing & payout privileges, Stripe Connect account placed under enhanced review.
  • Strike 3: permanent account termination, Stripe Connect closure, and addition of the user's verified identity, device fingerprint, and payment-instrument hash to our re-registration blocklist.
  • Zero-tolerance categories (CSAM, violent extremism, terrorism financing, counterfeit designer goods, doxxing) bypass the strike system and trigger immediate permanent termination plus mandatory law-enforcement referral where required by law.

9. Reporting & Takedown

Anyone โ€” users, rights holders, or aggrieved third parties โ€” can report policy-violating content via our public form at rented.live/report. We acknowledge every report within 24 hours and issue a substantive decision within 72 hours. DMCA notices follow 17 U.S.C. ยง 512 and may be sent to our designated agent at dmca@rented.live (no trailing period). EU users may contact our DSA Single Point of Contact at dsa@rented.live (also no trailing period). Both reporters and affected users receive written decisions and have a 14-day appeal window. The full process is published at /report.

10. Enforcement Outcomes

Violations of this Policy may result in any combination of: removal of listings, capture of the security deposit, suspension or closure of the Stripe Connect account, withholding of pending payouts, permanent account termination, addition to our re-registration blocklist, reporting to Stripe and law-enforcement authorities, and civil recovery of damages.

10A. Kids & Family โ€” additional rules

Listings in the Kids & Family section must comply with all general rules in this Policy plus these family-specific obligations:

  • Sanitisation pledge. Every lender must clean, wipe down, or freshly launder each item before every booking. Returning an item soiled, biologically contaminated, or unsafe for the next family triggers full deposit capture and a Strike.
  • Safety-expiry dates. Strollers, car seats, travel cots, high chairs, and carriers must carry a manufacturer-stamped expiry date. Items past expiry are auto-hidden. Listing expired gear is a Strike-2 offence.
  • No open recalls. Lenders must not list any baby gear subject to an open manufacturer or regulatory recall. Renters discovering a recalled item may report it via /report.
  • Age-band accuracy. Listings must declare an honest age band (0โ€“3m through 8โ€“12y) matching the item's intended developmental stage.
  • No medical, prescription, or feeding-formula items. Breast pumps, prescription medication, formula, and any single-use hygiene item (nappies, wipes, pacifiers, bottle teats) are prohibited.
  • No supervision implied. Renters supervise children at all times. Rented and lenders provide no childcare, medical advice, or product certification.

11. Updates & Contact

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in law, payment-processor requirements, or platform features. Material changes are communicated by email and in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

Questions, reports, or appeals: write to legal@rented.live or support@rented.live โ€” copy the addresses as-is, with no trailing period.
